Dear Laca,
On the subject of your hair...
Hair đź‘Ź Is đź‘Ź Everything
I might be bad about graduating habits of hair care for you. So just in case, I wanted to write down what I’ve learned about my own hair in case it helps you.
- Cheap Shampoo/Conditioner makes my hair look TERRIBLE. I think they tend to strip out the oils and do so aggressively. The result is a frizzy mess.
- A good haircut makes or breaks how I feel about my hair. Anything you don’t like about it, the frizz or the volume or whatever… you can fix with a different cut. I encourage you to experiment as much as you can when you’re young so you find what works best for your face shape.
- Less is more when it comes to product. I found that if I have to use product to control my hair, I’m actually just trying to fix bad shampoo. I got to the point where I had 3 different things I’d add to my hair out of the shower. I swapped that out for “New Hair” 2-in-1 (but it’s the consistency of conditioner) and I don’t have to add anything.
- I can’t brush my hair outside of the shower. I towel dry my hair, and it removes too much moisture from my hair for me to brush my hair afterwards. When I do brush it, my curls are totally shot. I have a shower brush I use in the shower and that’s all I do now.
- If my hair is “falling out” a lot (technically it’s breaking off) it generally means I’m overdue for a haircut. I like a quarterly haircut cadence when my hair is long, and every 8 weeks when it’s shoulder-length, bangs, or dyed.
- Hair stylists do so much better when you bring a picture of a cut if you’re going for something totally different than your current cut.
- My hair doesn’t dye well. It’s to thin and bleach will make it thin and frizzy and brittle. The most I’ve been able to do is a balayage.
